Toronto, Ontario, Canada: The size of a candy bar, this hunk of metal held by Jill Barton in Toronto, Canada, can be bought for some $1.120. It is a 32-ounce bar of gold, offered for sale on margin by the Toronto brokerage firm of Doherty and Roadhouse. A down payment of $100 is all that is needed to buy one, except for persons living in those parts of the world, including the U.S., where the hoarding of gold is illegal. Many investors are buying the bars on margin, hoping that the price of gold will rise to give them a nice profit.
